The story behind the photo
The sea has cut clean through the headland and left an opening you can see daylight through, and for a few evenings a year the sun sets far enough north to sit inside it. I framed from the boulder field so the arch fills the right of the picture and the lit gap sits near the centre.
The rocks in the foreground are dark, round and heavy, and I let them stay dark. Exposing for the glow through the arch pushes everything else down to near-black, so the image becomes a mass of stone with one bright hole in it, which is exactly how it looked from where I stood.
I used a small aperture and a few seconds of exposure. That keeps the sun from blooming across the opening and smooths the water washing between the boulders, so the only texture left is the granite.
Walking over wet, round stones in failing light with a tripod is a slow and slightly ridiculous business, and the window when the sun actually sits inside the arch lasts perhaps four minutes. Most of the evening was spent waiting. That is the job, and I would not swap it.

Materials
Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…), chosen for each photograph.
Print mounted on 3 mm aluminium Dibond: rigid, light, no glazing.
Print set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet: richer colour and depth, resistant to UV and humidity.
Framing, optional
For paper prints: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional.
For aluminium and acrylic: the photo seems to float inside its frame; black or white.
For aluminium and acrylic: an aluminium structure fixed to the back, invisible once hung.
Delivery and returns
Signed-for delivery by Colissimo or, depending on the country, to a pickup point; signed-for delivery by courier for Large and Extra large sizes and some framed prints. Usually two to three weeks in mainland France and Europe, thirty to forty-five days for the French overseas territories and other countries.
