Fine art prints

Frequently asked questions

What you need to know before ordering a print, and after receiving it. If your question is not here, write to me.

The print and the limited edition

How many prints are made of each photograph?

Twenty prints in all for each photograph, all sizes and materials combined, and never a twenty-first. If an edition were to sell out just as you place your order, I would let you know; an order cancelled for that reason is refunded within fourteen days of the cancellation (article 7 of the Terms and Conditions).

Where and how is the print signed and numbered?

Every print is signed and numbered by hand. On Fine art paper, the signature and the number are on the front, in the margin, when the print has one; otherwise, and on Aluminium Dibond or Acrylic glass, they are on the back.

Every print is delivered with its certificate of authenticity: the certificate bears the number of the print and a hologram, which is also affixed to the back of the print (article 3 of the Terms and Conditions).

What is the difference between Fine art paper, Aluminium Dibond and Acrylic glass?

All prints are produced in a fine art photography lab and checked one by one.

Fine art paper: a Hahnemühle paper that I choose for each photograph.

Aluminium Dibond: the print is mounted on a 3 mm aluminium Dibond panel, rigid and light, with no glazing.

Acrylic glass: the print is set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet, which gives richer colour and depth and protects it from UV and humidity.

Which paper will my photograph be printed on?

I choose the paper for each photograph from the Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…). On each product page, the “My advice for this photo” box names the family of paper I recommend, for example “matt cotton”.

The exact reference of the paper chosen for a photograph is available on request: write to me.

Can I reproduce or publish the photograph I have bought?

Buying a print makes you the owner of that print, not of the rights in the image: your rights are limited to private use. Any reproduction or distribution requires my written consent; for a book, a magazine, a website or an exhibition, a transfer of rights can be arranged on request (article 3 and article 17 of the Terms and Conditions).

Sizes and framing

What sizes are available, and what are their dimensions?

Four sizes: Small, Medium, Large and Extra large. For a 3:2 photograph, that means 45 × 30 cm, 60 × 40 cm, 90 × 60 cm and 120 × 80 cm; for a vertical photograph, the dimensions are reversed (30 × 45 cm, for example).

Photographs in 4:3, square or panoramic follow the same four steps: all their dimensions are on the “Choosing a size” page. These are the dimensions of the print; a frame makes them larger.

Which frames are offered, and for which materials?

Framing is optional: you can order the print without a frame.

For Fine art paper, the Classic frame: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional.

For Aluminium Dibond or Acrylic glass, the Floater frame, black or white, in which the photograph seems to float, or the Subframe, an aluminium structure fixed to the back and invisible once the print is hung.

The Classic frame is offered up to Large in 3:2 and 4:3, and up to Medium for square and panoramic photographs; beyond that, on quotation.

Can I order another size or another material?

Yes, on request: write to me from the Contact page and I will send you a quotation.

Please note: a print made to a special request (a size, a material or a crop outside the options of the configurator, or a dedication) is not covered by the right of withdrawal. I confirm this to you in writing before the order (article 10.2 of the Terms and Conditions).

Prices, ordering and payment

How much does a print cost?

From 195 €, VAT included: that is the price of a Small print on Fine art paper for most photographs (240 € for a panoramic photograph).

The price depends on the size, the material and the framing: on each product page, the “Sizes and prices” table gives the price of the print alone in the four sizes and the three materials. A frame comes on top, from 85 € for a Subframe, 150 € for a Floater frame and 225 € for a Classic frame.

The configurator shows the total before you add the print to the cart; delivery is extra (article 5 of the Terms and Conditions).

How do I order, and do I need to create an account?

On the page of a photograph, the configurator goes through three steps: “Print” (size and material), “Framing”, then “Review and purchase”, which shows the total before you add the print to the cart.

Ordering requires a customer account: it is created during checkout, from the details you enter (article 4 of the Terms and Conditions).

The sale is concluded when you click “Order and pay”: after that, the order can no longer be changed or cancelled, except by exercising your right of withdrawal (article 7 of the Terms and Conditions). If you are unsure, write to me before ordering.

Which payment methods do you accept?

Card, SEPA Direct Debit, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link and PayPal; depending on your country, PayPal also offers local payment methods (Bancontact, iDEAL…).

Card payments are secured by Stripe, with strong authentication when your bank requires it: I never have access to your bank details.

The print is made once payment has been received; with a SEPA Direct Debit, this can take a few working days (article 8 of the Terms and Conditions).

Delivery

How long does delivery take?

Each print is made after you order. Production included, it usually arrives within two to three weeks, and within thirty days at most, in mainland France and Europe; allow thirty to forty-five days for the French overseas territories and other countries.

You receive an email when the print is shipped. If it is late, write to me within eight days at contact@skywavenstudios.com: I then contact the carrier (article 9.1 of the Terms and Conditions).

Who delivers the print, and can I collect it from a pickup point?

Small and Medium sizes are sent by Colissimo: to your home against signature, or to a pickup point. Large and Extra large sizes, and some framed prints, are too big for Colissimo: they are delivered by courier, to your home and against signature.

Pickup points are offered in mainland France, Monaco and most countries of the European Union (Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands…); they are not offered for Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the French overseas territories or the rest of the world, nor for a delivery by courier, nor for an order of more than 1 000 € excluding VAT.

To collect your parcel, bring proof of identity and your order number (article 9 of the Terms and Conditions).

How much does delivery cost for a Small or a Medium?

The price depends on the weight of the parcel, the country and the delivery method; it is always shown before payment (article 5.2 of the Terms and Conditions). For a Small print on Fine art paper, without a frame, VAT included:

DestinationAgainst signaturePickup point
Mainland France, Monaco20,40 €16,80 €
Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands21,60 €18,00 €
Spain, Italy, Austria, Portugal, Ireland24,00 €20,40 €

Switzerland26,40 €not offered
Northern and Central Europe (Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Czechia…)26,40 €22,80 €
United States, Canada, Australia, Japan52,80 €not offered

A Medium print on Fine art paper costs 21,60 € in mainland France (18,00 € to a pickup point). A frame or a rigid material makes the parcel heavier: the price goes up in steps.

The exact price for your country is shown at the “Review and purchase” step of each work, before you add it to the cart.

How much does delivery cost for a Large or an Extra large?

Large and Extra large sizes, and some framed prints, are delivered by courier, at a flat rate per work, insurance and VAT included:

DestinationLargeExtra largeExtra large in a Floater frame
Mainland France, Monaco40 €135 €180 €
Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands50 €170 €170 €

Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Czechia85 €185 €on quotation

A frame makes the parcel bigger: most framed Medium prints travel at the Large rate, and some framed Large prints at the Extra large rate. The “Review and purchase” step of each work shows the exact price for your country before you add it to the cart.

For other countries, delivery of these sizes is quoted on request: write to me before ordering (article 9.1 of the Terms and Conditions).

Which countries do you deliver to, and are there customs duties?

I deliver to France, to Europe and to most other countries: the list is that of the countries offered at checkout.

For a delivery outside the European Union (United Kingdom, Switzerland, United States…) or to the French overseas territories, customs duties and import taxes may be due on arrival. They are payable by you and are not included in the price paid on the site (article 5.2 of the Terms and Conditions).

Receipt, returns and guarantees

What should I check on receipt?

Open the parcel and check the print as soon as you receive it. If the parcel is damaged, or if the print is damaged or missing, report it to the carrier and write to me at contact@skywavenstudios.com within three working days of receipt. Describe the damage precisely; photos help (article 9.1 of the Terms and Conditions).

Can I change my mind after receiving the print?

Yes: you have fourteen days from receipt to withdraw, without having to give a reason. Simply tell me within that period, using the online form “Withdraw from the contract”, the model form appended to the Terms and Conditions, or an unambiguous email; you receive an acknowledgement of receipt.

The only exception: a print made to a special request, outside the options of the configurator or bearing a dedication (article 10 of the Terms and Conditions).

How do I return a print, and when am I refunded?

Send the print back within fourteen days of your declaration, complete, in its original packaging or in packaging that protects it just as well, with its certificate of authenticity, to Skywaven Studios, 36 rue du Président Wilson, 78230 Le Pecq, France. Return costs are yours.

A print too large for La Poste (Large and Extra large sizes, some framed prints) comes back by courier: allow at most 150 € from mainland France, 250 € from another European country and 500 € from the French overseas territories or the rest of the world, excluding optional insurance.

I refund everything you paid, including the initial delivery (at the rate of the cheapest standard method offered), within fourteen days of your declaration, by the payment method used for the order; I may however wait until I have received the print, or proof that it has been sent (articles 10.4 and 10.5 of the Terms and Conditions).

What guarantees do I have, and what if there is a dispute?

Every print is covered by the legal guarantee of conformity, for two years from delivery, and by the legal guarantee against hidden defects (article 12 of the Terms and Conditions). To rely on them, or for any complaint, write to me at contact@skywavenstudios.com.

If we cannot reach an agreement, you may refer the matter free of charge, within a year of your written complaint, to the consumer mediator I am a member of, Société Médiation Professionnelle (article 22 of the Terms and Conditions).
