The story behind the photo
From further back, the hut becomes almost incidental and the walk to it becomes the subject. The path comes down from the top right in a long S, crosses the whole slope and arrives at the small dark roof near the bottom of the frame.
I framed horizontally to give that S room to unfold. Every bend of it is visible, which is rare (a mountain path usually disappears behind a fold after fifty metres), and a route you can follow from end to end changes how a picture is read. It stops being a view and becomes a distance.
The far range is under cloud and I let it stay soft and pale. The contrast in the picture is all in the near slope: bright grass, dark rock outcrops, the thin brown line of the track. Keeping the background low in contrast holds the eye on the ground.
These lakes sit above the treeline and the hut is the only built thing for a long way in any direction. Photographing it from a distance felt more honest than photographing it close, because distance is what a shelter is for.

Materials
Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…), chosen for each photograph.
Print mounted on 3 mm aluminium Dibond: rigid, light, no glazing.
Print set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet: richer colour and depth, resistant to UV and humidity.
Framing, optional
For paper prints: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional.
For aluminium and acrylic: the photo seems to float inside its frame; black or white.
For aluminium and acrylic: an aluminium structure fixed to the back, invisible once hung.
Delivery and returns
Signed-for delivery by Colissimo or, depending on the country, to a pickup point; signed-for delivery by courier for Large and Extra large sizes and some framed prints. Usually two to three weeks in mainland France and Europe, thirty to forty-five days for the French overseas territories and other countries.
