A pine bent flat by the mistral at the edge of the cape: acrylic glass makes the evening sky luminous and the silhouette crisp.

The story behind the photo
One pine has grown out over the edge of the cape, pushed sideways by decades of mistral until its whole crown leans downwind. It is the only tree on this shelf of rock, and the composition was decided the moment I saw it: the tree on the right, the sun landing on the left, the coastline running away between them.
I placed the camera low on the bare limestone so the foreground slab reads as a surface you could walk on. It also drops the horizon, which lets the pine stand against open sky rather than against the hillside behind it: the difference between a tree in a landscape and a tree that owns one.
The light at this hour does something particular on this coast. The cliffs are ochre and the sea is already dark, so the warm band across the water is narrow and the rest of the frame settles into deep blue-green. I underexposed slightly to keep that band from spreading.
Cap Canaille is part of the highest sea cliffs in France and the wind up there never fully stops. Holding a tripod steady, watching a tree that has spent its life being pushed, I had the clear sense that the pine was the one with the better technique.

Materials
Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…), chosen for each photograph.
Print mounted on 3 mm aluminium Dibond: rigid, light, no glazing.
Print set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet: richer colour and depth, resistant to UV and humidity.
Framing, optional
For paper prints: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional. The mount puts space between the photo and the frame: a classic, understated look that draws the eye to the image.
For aluminium and acrylic, black or white. A narrow gap separates the photo from the moulding: it seems to hang suspended inside its frame, for a contemporary look.
For aluminium and acrylic: an aluminium structure fixed to the back, invisible once hung. The photo seems to rest on the wall, slightly set off from it.
