Glowing rock path

Seen from the other side, the same headland becomes a corridor. I moved in close to the opening and framed upright, with the rock rising on the left and the boulder field running away underneath it towards the light — less a window this time than a way through.
The composition is a diagonal. The line of stones enters at the bottom right, climbs towards the gap, and the whole mass of the cliff leans over it from above. I wanted the picture to feel like something you are inside rather than something you are looking at.
The exposure sits low, as it has to when the only light source is a sky seen through a hole. The granite keeps just enough detail to read as granite, and the boulders in the middle ground pick up a thin warm edge that traces the route to the opening.
I came back to this headland three evenings running, from a different angle each time. The place is small enough to walk across in two minutes and deep enough that I still have not finished with it. That is usually the sign of a good subject.
