The story behind the photo
Two young women crossing the upper deck of the Léopold-Sédar-Senghor footbridge, seen from below through the steel arch, with the wind lifting their hair as they walk. They are small, high in the frame and entirely in silhouette; everything beneath them is structure.
This is the same bridge as “Genesis”, the staircase frame, and a completely different picture, because the camera has moved twenty metres and turned upwards. The arch now cuts a diagonal across the image and the walkway becomes a thin line at the top, which is where the figures have to be.
Exposing for the sky again puts the metalwork into black. What matters is that the two silhouettes stay separate, which means waiting until they are not overlapping, and that the hair keeps its outline, which means a shutter speed fast enough to stop it without freezing it into wire.
The wind on the Seine bridges is constant and stronger than people expect, and it is the reason this frame exists at all: on a still day there would have been two figures walking and nothing else.
I wanted a photograph in which the only soft thing in an entirely rigid structure is somebody’s hair.

Materials
Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…), chosen for each photograph.
Print mounted on 3 mm aluminium Dibond: rigid, light, no glazing.
Print set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet: richer colour and depth, resistant to UV and humidity.
Framing, optional
For paper prints: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional.
For aluminium and acrylic: the photo seems to float inside its frame; black or white.
For aluminium and acrylic: an aluminium structure fixed to the back, invisible once hung.
Delivery and returns
Signed-for delivery by Colissimo or, depending on the country, to a pickup point; signed-for delivery by courier for Large and Extra large sizes and some framed prints. Usually two to three weeks in mainland France and Europe, thirty to forty-five days for the French overseas territories and other countries.
