My advice for this photo

Material
Aluminium DibondOn fine art paper, I would choose a baryta paper.
Framing
Floater frame · Black

The lines of the footbridge race towards the runner: Aluminium Dibond, perfectly flat, keeps this geometry crisp.

The story behind the photo

The lower deck of the Léopold-Sédar-Senghor footbridge, photographed along its length, with a runner in the middle of the walkway and the Seine visible through the structure below. The deck tilts across the frame on a strong diagonal, hence the ramp in the title.

The tilt is real, not a crooked horizon: the deck descends towards the right bank, and I framed with it rather than correcting it. Levelling the picture would have produced something stable and inert, when the whole point is that the structure appears to be launching the runner out of the frame.

The light comes through the deck from underneath and the exposure is set for the sky, so the beams read as black bars and the paving as bright grey. The runner is the only mid-tone in the picture.

This is a bridge people run on. It is car-free, exactly 106 metres long, and it links the Left Bank to the Tuileries garden, so at almost any hour there is somebody crossing it at speed.

I wanted a photograph about momentum, and a piece of engineering that looks for a moment like a machine for throwing people forwards.
