Wizard’s forest

This was the first frame I made on that misty May morning in the Huelgoat forest, before moving further into the boulders that would later become “Arch of green” and “Ferns in the chaos.” The Breton legends around here run thick: a giant’s rage, a treasure still hidden somewhere among the rocks, Merlin himself said to walk these paths at dawn.
Standing alone in that fog with the camera raised, I understood exactly why people still tell those stories. Some places don’t need embellishing; they come with their own mythology built in.
The granite blocks lie under moss thick enough to round every edge, and the oaks have grown up wherever the chaos left a gap. Warm light was coming through from the far end of the clearing, which is rare under this canopy and lasts a few minutes.
I framed with the boulders filling the lower half and the lit opening in the upper third, so the picture climbs out of the dark green foreground towards the only bright thing in it. Exposing for that opening leaves the near stones deep and heavy, which is exactly how the place feels from inside.
