The story behind the photo
The lake was completely still and the whole north face of La Meije was lying in it, snow and all. When water does this there is nothing to add: the only decision left is where to stand and how much of the mirror to give away.
I chose a spot where flat slabs break the surface in the near water. Without them the reflection would be a clean but weightless copy; with them the eye has stones to step on before it swims out to the glacier, and the picture gains a foreground that belongs to the same body of water.
I put the shoreline just below the middle and gave the water slightly more of the frame than the mountains and the sky: standing there, it is the reflection you cannot stop looking at.
The walk up is long and the water at this altitude is painfully cold even in August. I stood in it to get low enough, boots off, and I remember counting how long I could bear it against how long the surface would stay calm. The stillness won by about a minute.

Materials
Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…), chosen for each photograph.
Print mounted on 3 mm aluminium Dibond: rigid, light, no glazing.
Print set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet: richer colour and depth, resistant to UV and humidity.
Framing, optional
For paper prints: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional.
For aluminium and acrylic: the photo seems to float inside its frame; black or white.
For aluminium and acrylic: an aluminium structure fixed to the back, invisible once hung.
Delivery and returns
Signed-for delivery by Colissimo or, depending on the country, to a pickup point; signed-for delivery by courier for Large and Extra large sizes and some framed prints. Usually two to three weeks in mainland France and Europe, thirty to forty-five days for the French overseas territories and other countries.
