The story behind the photo
A single low hut sits on the green shoulder of the slope, and behind it the range rises under fresh snow, with a bank of heavy cloud resting on the ridge. The hut is small, dark and squarely built, and it is the only right angle in a picture otherwise made of curves.
I framed from above, looking down onto the roof and out towards the peaks, which flattens the distance and puts the building and the mountains in the same plane. From lower down, the hut would have stood against the sky and looked heroic; from here it looks like what it is, a shelter tucked into a fold of ground.
The path winds in from the left and passes just below the hut. It is faint, but it is the human thread through the picture, and it tells you the building is used rather than abandoned.
Weather was coming in fast that afternoon and I had maybe twenty minutes before the cloud came down over everything. Photographing a shelter while watching the reason for shelters arrive is a useful lesson in what these buildings are for.

Materials
Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…), chosen for each photograph.
Print mounted on 3 mm aluminium Dibond: rigid, light, no glazing.
Print set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet: richer colour and depth, resistant to UV and humidity.
Framing, optional
For paper prints: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional.
For aluminium and acrylic: the photo seems to float inside its frame; black or white.
For aluminium and acrylic: an aluminium structure fixed to the back, invisible once hung.
Delivery and returns
Signed-for delivery by Colissimo or, depending on the country, to a pickup point; signed-for delivery by courier for Large and Extra large sizes and some framed prints. Usually two to three weeks in mainland France and Europe, thirty to forty-five days for the French overseas territories and other countries.
