The story behind the photo
One tree stands in the middle of a field that had just come into yellow flower, and the sun was dropping to exactly the height of its lower branches. I moved along the edge of the field until the disc sat in the gap between trunk and canopy, and stopped there.
The sky was doing something better than the field: dark, broken cloud with hard-lit edges, a clear band at the horizon, and the whole upper half full of movement. I set the horizon low, at about a third, so the cloud has room and the crop is reduced to a base.
Exposing for the sun turns the tree into a silhouette and darkens the flowers to a deep gold, which is what I wanted: the yellow reads as warm rather than acid, and the whole frame settles into two or three colours instead of five.
Fields like this change completely three or four times a year and then get ploughed, while the tree in the middle stays exactly the same. I keep coming back to places with one fixed point in them, because the picture is never about the tree; it is about what is happening around it this time.

Materials
Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…), chosen for each photograph.
Print mounted on 3 mm aluminium Dibond: rigid, light, no glazing.
Print set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet: richer colour and depth, resistant to UV and humidity.
Framing, optional
For paper prints: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional.
For aluminium and acrylic: the photo seems to float inside its frame; black or white.
For aluminium and acrylic: an aluminium structure fixed to the back, invisible once hung.
Delivery and returns
Signed-for delivery by Colissimo or, depending on the country, to a pickup point; signed-for delivery by courier for Large and Extra large sizes and some framed prints. Usually two to three weeks in mainland France and Europe, thirty to forty-five days for the French overseas territories and other countries.
