Waterfall circus

The cliff curves round into a half bowl and two falls come off the rim at the same height, dropping into a pool so green it looks dyed. The shape of the amphitheatre is what the title is about, and it is also what made the frame difficult.
I framed wide and low at the water’s edge so the curve is legible from one side to the other, with mossed boulders sitting in the pool as the near anchor. Those boulders are the only things in the picture at a human scale; everything else is either cliff or water.
Several seconds of exposure smooth the pool completely and turn both falls into white columns. The green of the water comes from limestone, not from the moss, and it holds better under a long exposure because the surface stops scattering light.
The Jura is full of places like this and almost none of them are famous. That anonymity is most of the appeal: nobody has told you where to stand, so you have to work it out, and the picture ends up being yours.
