The bluebell awakening

Each spring, for a few short weeks, the forest floor of Rambouillet turns into a haze of blue as the bluebells push up beneath the beech and oak canopy before the leaves fully close overhead. I caught this one just as the morning light broke through low and warm, still catching the last of the mist between the trunks.
“Awakening” felt like the right word: for one narrow window each year, this ordinary stretch of forest turns into something closer to a fairy tale, then quietly goes back to being just trees for the other eleven months.
