The story behind the photo
The picture is built in two halves that do not belong to each other. Below, a green slope strewn with grey boulders and small flowers, close enough to touch. Above, the Meije with its snow, distant and entirely indifferent.
I framed with the break between them a little above the middle, so the meadow has the weight and the range has the height. The boulders lead in from the bottom corner; they are the only thing giving the foreground a direction, and without them the grass would simply be a green band.
The light came from the side, mid-morning, which is unfashionable but useful here: it puts a shadow on the right of every boulder and keeps the slope from flattening, while the snow above is still bright enough to hold the top of the frame.
Walking up from La Grave, you spend an hour with that face in front of you, growing slowly, and it never becomes ordinary. The photograph is my attempt at the feeling of stopping halfway, out of breath, in a field of flowers, under something enormous.

Materials
Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…), chosen for each photograph.
Print mounted on 3 mm aluminium Dibond: rigid, light, no glazing.
Print set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet: richer colour and depth, resistant to UV and humidity.
Framing, optional
For paper prints: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional.
For aluminium and acrylic: the photo seems to float inside its frame; black or white.
For aluminium and acrylic: an aluminium structure fixed to the back, invisible once hung.
Delivery and returns
Signed-for delivery by Colissimo or, depending on the country, to a pickup point; signed-for delivery by courier for Large and Extra large sizes and some framed prints. Usually two to three weeks in mainland France and Europe, thirty to forty-five days for the French overseas territories and other countries.
