The story behind the photo
For about ten days each autumn, the maples along this bank turn a red so saturated that the water beneath them stops being water and becomes a second sky. I framed the scene as a tunnel: branches closing overhead, the channel running away to a bright opening at the far end, everything else red.
The composition is almost symmetrical, and I let it be. The reflection is not a trick of the lens but the real geometry of the place, and fighting it would have weakened the picture. I set the horizon line exactly on the waterline so that the eye cannot easily tell which half is the tree and which the mirror.
Fallen leaves float on the surface and hold the foreground together, giving the eye somewhere to rest before it travels down the channel. They also date the image: a week earlier they were still on the branch; a week later the wind had taken them to the bottom.
What I feel here is impatience more than calm. This colour does not wait. Every year I watch the bank, and every year it turns almost without warning; the whole photograph is the small triumph of having been there on the right morning.

Materials
Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…), chosen for each photograph.
Print mounted on 3 mm aluminium Dibond: rigid, light, no glazing.
Print set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet: richer colour and depth, resistant to UV and humidity.
Framing, optional
For paper prints: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional. The mount puts space between the photo and the frame: a classic, understated look that draws the eye to the image.
For aluminium and acrylic, black or white. A narrow gap separates the photo from the moulding: it seems to hang suspended inside its frame, for a contemporary look.
For aluminium and acrylic: an aluminium structure fixed to the back, invisible once hung. The photo seems to rest on the wall, slightly set off from it.
Delivery and returns
Signed-for delivery by Colissimo or, depending on the country, to a pickup point; signed-for delivery by courier for Large and Extra large sizes and some framed prints. Usually two to three weeks in mainland France and Europe, thirty to forty-five days for the French overseas territories and other countries.
