Spring sunrise 2023
- 📍 Location: Le Vésinet, Yvelines, France
- 📅 Date: 2023
The same motif, a year later and a few kilometres away: two cherries in blossom above a flooded strip, the sun rising between them. What is different is the air. There was mist on this morning, and it takes the contrast out of everything.
I exposed higher than I would normally dare, letting the water and the far trees go almost white. The picture becomes pale rather than golden, and the blossom sits in it as a soft pink stain instead of a bright object. That paleness is the whole difference between this frame and the version I made the previous spring.
The reflection is stronger here because the surface was completely undisturbed and the light was even — with no hard sun on the water, the mirror holds its detail right to the bottom edge of the frame.
Dating a picture in its own title is not something I usually do. I did it here because there are two of these and they are not the same photograph, and I would rather be explicit about that than let anyone think I had reworked the first one.
