Waves road

The fields here roll in long low swells, and in spring they are planted in alternating crops, so the hills arrive as bands of green and hard yellow laid over each other. A road runs through the middle of them, appearing and disappearing with the ground.
I used a long lens from a rise on the far side, which flattens the distance and stacks the bands into something closer to a painted surface than a landscape. Wide, this is pleasant farmland; compressed, it becomes pure pattern.
The pale pink haze on the horizon is not filtration, it is the coastal air, and I left it. It gives the top of the frame a soft edge that stops the pattern from running out of the picture, and it separates the last ridge from the sky.
Agricultural land is rarely thought of as scenery, and I find it is where the most surprising colour in northern France appears. Nobody designed this and it will be a different picture entirely next year.
