White waves

At Ploumanac’h on Brittany’s Pink Granite Coast, huge boulders in shades of rose and orange crowd the shoreline around the old stone beacon, while the sea beyond turns an almost improbable turquoise under an overcast sky. The coastline here looks almost sculpted, each boulder rounded and stacked as if by some deliberate hand rather than centuries of erosion.
I used a long exposure to soften the incoming waves into pale, drifting foam, so that hard, ancient stone in the foreground would sit against something that looks almost weightless by comparison: granite against silk.
The tide was running into the channels between the boulders and breaking white over the lower ones. Several seconds of exposure turn that into a continuous pale wash around the granite while every block stays absolutely hard-edged.
I framed with the largest boulders across the foreground and the lighthouse small on its reef behind, so the eye crosses the stone first and arrives at the tower last. The colour needs no adjustment here — pink granite against blue-white water is what this coast actually looks like on a clear afternoon.
