The story behind the photo
The ferns grow here in a continuous band along the stream, following the damp ground exactly, and from low down they form a path of their own: a green line that runs from the bottom of the frame into the wood and disappears among the boulders.
I framed upright with a wide lens very close to the nearest frond, so it stands almost as tall as the trees behind it. Scale is deliberately confused: at this distance a fern the length of a forearm can hold its own against an oak, and the forest becomes something you might walk into at knee height.
The colour is the real subject. After rain, moss and new fronds go a green that borders on unnatural, and I let it stay strong rather than correcting it towards something more restrained. It is what the gorge looks like when it is at its best.
I spent two mornings in this half-kilometre of valley and made most of my Brittany pictures in it. There is a moment in a place like that when you stop hunting and start simply looking down, and everything useful happens after that.

Materials
Hahnemühle fine art papers (Photo Rag, Museum Etching, Fine Art Baryta…), chosen for each photograph.
Print mounted on 3 mm aluminium Dibond: rigid, light, no glazing.
Print set between 3 mm Dibond and an acrylic sheet: richer colour and depth, resistant to UV and humidity.
Framing, optional
For paper prints: white mount and Plexiglas glazing, museum glass optional.
For aluminium and acrylic: the photo seems to float inside its frame; black or white.
For aluminium and acrylic: an aluminium structure fixed to the back, invisible once hung.
Delivery and returns
Signed-for delivery by Colissimo or, depending on the country, to a pickup point; signed-for delivery by courier for Large and Extra large sizes and some framed prints. Usually two to three weeks in mainland France and Europe, thirty to forty-five days for the French overseas territories and other countries.
