The ember wood
- 📍 Lieu : Forest of Malmaison, Rueil-Malmaison, France
- 📅 Date : March, 2026, morning
In the Malmaison forest on a heavily fogged morning in early March, every mature trunk around had already gone bare and grey for the winter, dissolving into the mist a few metres back. One young tree hadn’t gotten the message: still holding a full head of dried, copper-orange leaves, the way young beech saplings often do until spring finally pushes the new growth through and forces the old leaves off.
Against all that flat, colourless fog, it stood out like a coal still glowing in a dead fire, which is exactly where the title comes from.
